In todays ever increasing demand for "Entertainment" people in todays society tend to forget about "classic" historical products such as music and art because of supply and demand. In todays modern society the demand for new products far outstrips the need to and want to in fact look at and even go back to old products.
Popular Culture is by the people for the people. This means that the public demand what they wont as popular culture and at times, wants new instead of old.
Popular Culture plays a threat to the "canons" and vice versa. Both systems will feel that each culture could destroy and harm one another. A difference between popular culture and the canon is that where the "canon" is what people wanted, popular culture is what people want. It is their desires for sel-fulfillment.
Many people that prefer the "classic" Status of art and literature feel that the is a marxist element towards popular culture, and that is not necessarily controlled by the people. The people who prefer the "canon" feel that the mass media controls and depisits what it wants from the market at the time. The media creates fashion, publicises art and promotes music. Those things they promote are not from the "classic" status, just merely a form a temporarily popular culture where they feel that can settle the publics demand for change in a short term way.
Popular culture and the people that are subordinate to it, feel that through "classic" genres there is a deviance to todays demand. They feel that the "canon" is a deviant to the dominant ideology because they refuse to comply with what is seen as "modern" and try to move away from popular culture.
It is hard in todays market to try and escape the concept of popular culture. In such a diverse country such as the U.K, what is popular culture. There is no more one single file to follow to be apart of popular culture. There is in fact 5 or 6 lines to be in which the media would all still refer as popular culture. This puts the issue of "canon" even more under threat because while popular culture seems to be expanding to more than say more than 2 types of popular music to listen to, there are now 4, 5 and even 6 different types of popular music to listen to. This is resulting in the "canon" to be pushed even further away by popular culture and make classic texts even harder to be able to have access to. Resulting in this the the Dominant ideology will succeed where we are in a state of hegemony and we allow ourselves to be controlled by others above us, to the point where "canons" may one day just be a part of history because of the demands of popular culture.

There are some references here to perspectives and key concepts, but it is not entirely clear that these have been understood at anything other than a superficial level. The answer is intelligible though poorly structured. It does not quite meet Level 3 criteria such a "satisfactory awareness" and "some attempt to use technical vocabulary" for Assessment Objective 1.
In terms of AO2, this response is at the top of Level 2. There are some relevant ideas which can be rewarded; for example the proposition that popular culture is "threatening" because of its very diversity. However, this answer consists of unsubstantiated assertions and simple description alongside semi-digested theoretical material.
